Dr. Doug Buchanan

Doug Buchanan holds a B.A. from McGill, an M.A from Bishop’s University and a PhD from the University of Montreal. While at Bishop’s he began a career in theatre that led him to work as a lighting designer, technical director, carpenter and equity stage manager and director. He designed lights for Festival Lennoxville and various touring shows including Mia Anderson’s Ten Women, Two Men and a Moose and Peter Pringle’s Noel Coward. He has done work at Centaur, the NAC, the Charlottetown Festival, Citadel, Niagara on the Lake Mime, Factory Theatre, Quebec City Summer Stock, The Piggery, Hart House and the Grand. For many years he was the Technical Director of Dawson College’s Dome Theatre. He has also had over thirty years experience as a teacher of theatre history and text at Dawson College and is the author of… and One Classical: A Shakespeare Audition Handbook, which was written in self-defence. He is, with Stephane Zarov, the English translator of the monumental La Vie et mort du roi boiteux by Jean-Pierre Ronfard. He also acted three times – once for money.
